I;d say both, cartoons can 'fantasy' out of the game which makes it more fun but on something like COD you need more realistic ones that get you engaged in the game and make you think 'this has happened and I am playing it'. However even in games like that you need a bit of cartoon just to bring you back into the real world so you know your not actually there.
