I see that there are lits of question on pokemon pearl on the faq so i though i might be able to help on here.
I have completed my game twice so if you want cheats hints or just want to talk about it im the guy u want to ask.

basicaly it is easy you get directed and helped thorugh hints to the first town (GYM) the gym leader will have rock type pokemon so be carefull.

I have had millions of questions like this and to be really honest there isnt one.
I started of with turtwig mainly cos he looked cool my mate started of with chimchar and another with piplup and my mate with piplup completed the game first cos he has the type advantage.( good against ground fire and stuff like that)
so i would say piplup but the choice is up to u.
