This is going to be the second time I had to write this because my system did something and I lost the hours worth of stuff I have typed.

Anyways, this thread should clear up any questions you may have about role-playing. If not, you can post your question and I will try to answer it.

I. What is Role-Playing?

Role-playing is anything you want it to be based on telling a story. It really just takes a good imagination and someone with an idea. You can also think of it as a live movie, where you can act out scenes and things such. Anyone can write an RP thread and they can be really fun to get into. Role-playing really isn't some big, scary thing. It is more like telling a story if you want to make it in literal terms. Role-playing sounds better though.

a. What is a role-playing thread

I'll describe this one short and sweet. A role-playing thread is like a book. There's the intro, the body, and the conclusion. There is lengh to a book and your RP thread should have that too. By that I mean quality of posts and longevity of threads.

b. What do I write when I start a role-playing thread?

You basically make a story and a backround (introduction) to give an idea of the subject of the story is going to be. You also should make the title be the name of the journey like mine is called "2371" because that is what the main subject is about. You also should specify which sides there are like good or evil so people can choose what they want to be. You can also make your thread like a Pokemon Journey, where you make a thread calling all trainers and signing them up to say The Pokemon League after they get all eight badges. When you create the thread, you should also make sure to ask for the name of their character and their age and history (at least) so everyone can get an idea of who you are.

c. What do I do when I want to post in an RP thread?

For one, you should make sure you post about the subject at hand, because then you could confuse the whole process and that can be a total mess. You should also make sure your post has some quality to it so you aren't just progressing the story one step. That is basically SPAMMING the thread and that is pretty bad.

d. Where can I make my character?

You can make your character by using an ABB (see below) or you can make one specifically for that role-playing adventure. You should make sure that you include substance with your ABB because you don't want people to think you are lazy and unwilling, do you?

II. ABB (Active Battler Bios)

NOTE- You most likely won't need one of these for most RP threads

a. What is an ABB

An ABB is a character that you create for use in an RP adventure. You can design the character to be whatever you want, as long at it meets the terms of the RP thread. An ABB also is used for when you battle another person who has an ABB, but I don't think anyone here would want to do that because it is kind of complicated and even I don't know that much about it. For general terms, an ABB is used in RP threads

b. Posting in an ABB

You really shouldn't post in someone's ABB thread because it mostly is for their use and not to be used to say things like nice. The use of an ABB thread is to post your character that you would like to use in an RP adventure.

c. What should I include with my ABB

There are some things you should include when you make an ABB because these are vital things that you would need. You want people to know who you are, don't you?

Things to include:

Name: The name of your character
Age: The age of your character
Sex: The gender of your character
History: A description of your character's past
Personality: How your character acts
Appearance: How your character looks
Weapons: If any or if specified in the RP thread
Magic: If any or if specified in the RP thread

d. How do I indicate my ABB?
Simply put (ABB) at the end of the thread title.

I think that answered all of it, but if you still have questions, please post in this thread.

Thanks,
Lukario

Wow, such a description, Will. I think we all wanted a piece of that to make sure we knew how to play and all that, but I still think it's best to DESCRIBE what you want and how you want the RPG played when you create one. Right?

I think a lot of the members understand how they work now. This was really just a guide for when this board was made to help people who didn't know how to make one work. This thread really doesn't have much of a use now, other than maybe a reference.

Thanks,
Lukario
