We are looking for more people who can review games and answer questions that are posted both in forum and on site.
CheatMaster is willing to give away games for those who prove to be good site game reviewers. Therefore ... we decided to start here in the forums before we invited anyone to be a site game reviewer. (for an example look here: http://www.cheatmasters.com/review.php?id=168&start=&platform=PS2)
If there is enough interest and we start to see some decent reviews I will create a review board here and those who show promise as a good reviewer may well be asked to do reviews for the site.
If you wish to review a game, post the game title, what platform you have played it on and your description and review of the game in this board. As I said, if we get enough interest I will open a board specifically for game reviews.
So let's see what ya got? throw us some reviews and perhaps you too can be a CheatMaster game reviewer and win free games! :TooHappy:

Title: Mario Golf-Toadstool Tour
Date of Release: July 28, 2003
Developer: Camelot (Camelot Software Planning)
Publisher: Nintendo
Platform: Nintendo Gamecube
ESRB Rating: E
- Overview -
This game is a sequel to the Nintendo64 game Mario Golf. In Mario Golf-Toadstool Tour you start out with the choice of playing with twelve characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Koopa Troopa, Yoshi, Birdo, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Wario, Waluigi, and Bowser and featuring four unlockable characters: Bowser Jr. Boo, Shadow Mario, and Petey Pirahna. There are also six courses, of which five have to be unlocked.
- Description -
This golf game is not one you see everyday. There are several things that make this game very unique. You can get you ball eaten by Chain Chomp, fall in lava, and bounce off of Mushrooms. This game does include physics of real golf as well; including wind factor and topspin, backspin, and hills. This makes for a realistic game, but also with some things that you won't see in a game of golf.
- Review -
First of all, let me start this off by saying this game is really great and a must have for any Mario and golf fan. You should like this game if you buy it. Let me first start out with graphics. The graphics are fully used in this game and has graphics quality of next gen. There are little to no graphics glitches in this game and that makes it very enjoyable. You can pretty much tell by looking at the back of the box that this game looks good. I personally had a hard time playing in the beginning because you now have the option of having the accuracy automatically chosen. So I had a bit of trouble with that. I would suggest that when you first play the game, to play Stroke Play so you can get a feel of the game before you actually play in the tournament. The gameplay of this game is nothing sub-par. Almost anyone who plays the game will find it an enjoyable game. I thought that Tournament was awesome, but after a while I found that it got too easy. If you are a little more seasoned at the game, then Star Tournament will definetly provide a challenge.
I liked the side options as well like coin attack, and speed golf. These I found were pretty cool things seeing as I don't remember seeing them in the original Mario Golf. Of all the courses in the game, I think my favorite one would have to be the fourth course you unlock: Mushroom Kingdom one. This one has the most integration that come from other games, such as Pikmin and other older Mario Games. I would say all of the courses provide enough challenge and would be fun no matter how many times you play them. I also reccomend people that have never played any Mario Golg game start with Training Mode. You should learn all the controls in about ten to fifteen minutes and soon you should be ready for the tournaments.
Some new additions to the game that I think are pretty cool are Club Shots and the ability to see replays of Birdies, Eagles, Holes in One, and Albatrosses. Let me start with Club Shots. In this mode, you can only play with a certain number of clubs such as three or four, and they alternate every hole meaning that you choose new clubs every hole and you also can choose to get a bonus for that hole, such as an extra Power Shot or Perfect Accuracy. I can say that more advanced players try this mode because you may not get a very good set of clubs every hole. The videos are one of the best things in the game, Being able to prove that you finally got that Eagle or Hole in One. I have found that this option is pretty cool. I personally have only one Hole in One, in the hole that looks like Mount Rushmore with the rock sculptures of Mario and the gang. This feature again is pretty awesome.
The game also keeps statistics of how well you have done on each course in Tournament Mode. I found this to pretty pretty neat because I now can see what my farthest drive was, what was my best score on each course, and things like par saves and sand saves.
That is what I have for now. If you want anything else, just let me know.
Thanks,
Lukario

Pokemon Leafgreen
Pokemon leafgreen is literally one of the best gaming experiences up to date. the real trick here is: even though it says ''the end,'' you can't just put it down and say, ''whoops! i beat it, nothing left to do.'' the replay value is amazing, infinite. the elite four is just an appetizer of what is to come. there seem to be billions of side quests on the sevii islands. and that's not all: the magic word here, music to my ears: gameshark. Gameshark lets you catch every single Pokemon available. there are countless npc's that give you interesting info on the world of Pokemon. truly, Pokemon: leafgreen version is up there in the ''ultimate game league,'' putting it among the ranks of such games as ocarina of time and super mario bros. I recommend this game to everyone, gamers and non gamers alike. Pokemon: leafgreen is the pinnacle of the entire Pokemon franchise. thank you, Nintendo.

Title: Super Smash Bros Melee
Date of Release: December 3, 2001
Developer: HAL
Publisher: Nintendo
Platform: Nintendo Gamecube
ESRB Rating: T
- Overview -
The sequel to the popular Super Smash Bros. game, the Nintendo all stars are back again to fight. This time, you have more selection and a longer and funner time with a good game. You now can play with twenty-five characters; more than double the original roster. You start out with fourteen of the twenty-five available. There are also twenty-nine maps; eighteen of which are availabe at the start.
- Description -
This game is a fighting based game where players don't have a health meter. You play with a percentage that increases every time you get hit. This make the game a bigger variable because you never really know when you will actually get knocked out of the ring. The maps are also a force to be reconed with. You have to deal with debris falling and also animals in the way.
- Review -
I can say this is one of the best games I have ever played for any platform. There are several things that could make this game one of the best Nintendo games ever. For one, it is already the best selling Gamecube game, with seven million copies sold worldwide. It also boasts graphics that I would consider next-generation. You can say whatever you want, but the game had me at the cover. I already am an avid Super Smash Brothers fan and this game has so many things attached into it. For one, all the different modes in the game can make it to where you would have to spend several days, maybe even weeks or months just to complete even some of the game.
I would say I was impressed at first, but the gameplay did get stale after a while and I did originally feel that this game wasn't all I thought it was. That was, until I discovered Event Mode. This totally made my interest in the game go up ten fold and again I was playing the game to try to beat all of the events. At first, when I only say ten events, I thought this wouldn't be too hard, but I was proved so wrong. I really didn't know how many there would actually be in the game, so I just kept playing and playing until I had accumulated about 100 hours of gameplay. Event Mose was worth that, because every one is a challenge in itself.
I was pretty much satisfied with the One-player mode, with the Classic and Adventure mode. Adventure was pretty cool, but it is only fun a couple of times. Classic was improved now so you aren't versing the same character in the same place every time like in the original. This made the game pretty interesting. The one-player mode is even better with All-Star mose, where you have to play against every character in the game, with a set amount of lives.
The Versus mode probably never gets old because I can play against people on a variety of maps and this makes the gameplay pretty cool because the maps have cool soundtracks and the effects make the time you play worth it. I can say that this mode is a very good improvement to the game.
The maps are a really good addition to the game. I can say that this has to be the biggest hitch to the game. The game now includes moving maps, such as Infinite Glacier and the F-ZERO Grand Prix stage. I personally like the Dream Fountain stage that is part of the Kirby Series. The unlockable stages are pretty cool as well and I can say I am impressed with the quality of the maps, seeing as it was put together in such little time. The maps that move also make games even better.
Trophies are something that make me go Aaaarrrrggghhhh because it is nearly impossible to get every single one. I can say that this makes the game a lot harder to complete and players most likely go crazy just trying to get all of them. The ones that I think are the hardest ones to get are Mew and Celebi because there is literally no chance of you getting those to even appear. I know I had to play almost 250 hours before I got Celebi and Mew.
The characters also enhance the game a lot because of the uniqueness of every character. There are even some that don't appear in American and European games, such as Roy and Marth, who later have become a part of the US games. I can say that getting all the characters is a fear in itself because you have to play for five straight hours or twenty hours in versus mode and one-player to get Mewtwo. Just getting him means you are a pretty hard-core Super Smash Bros Fan.
Overall, I think this game is very good and I would say that anyone that has friends would have a blast playing this game.
Man, that has to be the longest message I have ever posted. Took me like 30 minutes to type it though.
Thanks,
Lukario

Use caution when giving reviews so that you are not simply copying them from the game box or a magazine article or even another web site's review. They must be in your own words or they could cause trouble due to copyright infringement.
I'm glad you all seem to have an interest, perhaps a board just for reviews would be in order then?

I plan to throw up a review board sometime this week (crosses fingers .. :p), in the mean time, you all can use this thread if you have anything to review.

Company of Heroes
Version 1.0
Info
Released 2006 , developed by THQ.
MA 15+
Company of Heroes, in a nutshell, a intense, in your face war game.
Your first thought hwne you load up the tutorial is 'How Beautiful', you know, like when you get your first pet :)
The graphics are astounding, when you see screenshots, you might think it is a First person Shooter. You can zoom in to eye level, the soldiers have the smartest AI ever seen so far in a RTS game.
The enviorment is descructible, ever been annoyed off that bloody wall in the way of your tank? Now just charge straight over it! Ever hated have hundreds of enemies in one building, slaughtering all near it? Just put demolitions on the supports, and blow down the building!
The campaign supports the great gameplay. With a emoitional ride through the events from D-Day. It has the same quality of a movie does, keeping you entranced ofr hours at a time with over 5 hours of gameplay movies.
The factions featured in this game, America and germany, have extensive depth. Though on paper it is disappointing to see there are only two factions, America and Germany, you'll forget about that when you boot up the game. The factions have the historical units, and the units are moddelled down to their shoes, what their wearing, everything is perfect.
The AI is amazing, gone are the days of charge into your guns., THe enemy uses every trick it can think of. Now you have to use stratergy, no longer do you recruit masses of infantry and charge, now you have to send in recon planes, then bomb their base, then use your other tricks. Sabotage, sniping, etc. When you finnaly charge in, you find your tanks faced with Anit tank traps, barbed wire, machine guns and anti tank guns, and with the Germans, the feared 88 Flak Guns.
Though, every great game has its problems. The computer required to play such a stunning game is huge, it requires over 512 megs of ram, and over 5 gigs of hard drive space. It sometimes slows to a halt with the staggering requirements, but if your computer can handle it, this i a must have with any person. If you a Vonsolde FPS gamer or a die hard RTS fan, this is your game.
+great Graphics
+The detail and view of everything will blow you away
+The best AI ever seen in a RTS game.
+many more goodies
-System requirements are staggering!
-Slows to a halt sometimes.
How about that, is that a good review?
Please tell me whats bad, so I can fix it.

i would love to review my fav game.
Game:Okami
Developer:Clover Studios
Platform:PS2
Okami is about a god who is in the form of a wolf. the god is based on the Shinto goddess Amaterasu who is the great sun god in the game. Amaterasu once fought a monster named Orochi. After the battle, she died and lost her powers in the process. She is then resurrected by a wood sprite named Sakuya. Amaterasu must save the land from darkness and reclaim her lost powers while doing so.
The game is mostly based on the japanese mythology. Okami has a very special characteristic in it. It allows you to DRAW. by holding the R1 button you can do almost anything. slash a monster, make a tree bloom, blow something up with a cherry bomb, make wind, etc. this kind of makes the PS2 smile down at the DS saying 'i still have a few tricks up my sleeve youngblood' These unique drawing techniques can only be obtained by gods that you encounter in the game.
Now the characters seem to talk with a sort of gibberish. almost like animal crossing. the landscape is very beautiful. it is japanese painting. The graphics are great especially when you clean the land of evil. but the camera kind of glitches here and there. nevertheless, the story, beauty, and graphics keep you hooked on this game. another con is that they talk too much. the characters just keep on blabbing. one character who is always with you throughout the game is chocked full of info. he gives you tips, but he can be very funny at times. this gives the game a bit of comic relief.
those of you who dont like japanese games should give Okami a chance. besides there are many unlockables in it too.

I'd love to post one of my own and if you'll forgive me, I may just do that (in a potential double post... thus my plea for forgiveness) while awaiting your response. Rogue Galaxy
Platform: Playstation 2
Reviewed By: Liver Fluke
During a period of time when the game industry is set to be inherited by the likes of the Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360, it can be easy to lose track of the fading sixth generation consoles. Rogue Galaxy was released at a time when next-generation hype was at its peak, and as such, a gamer could be forgiven for looking past this classic role playing affair when more visually attractive titles like Gears of War and Resistance were already in the hands of gamers.
Rogue Galaxy places you in the shoes of a young man named Jaster, and as is to be expected of a role-playing space opera these days, Rogue Galaxy charges you with leading Jaster and his band of misfits on a lengthy adventure to save the galaxy from certain destruction. During the course of the game you will command a total of eight party members, each of which is gifted with a unique set of abilities and repetitive one-liners.
The battle system of Rogue Galaxy largely takes place in real time, and is comparable to that found in the Kingdom Hearts series. Three party members may engage the enemy at once, though you always have direct control over just one character, Jaster by default. Basic striking or long range attacks can be executed swiftly through simple button presses, much like in an action game. More complex moves however are located on a menu. Accessing this menu pauses the action and allows you to select items or special skills at your own leisure. The battle system works well and certainly keeps you on your toes. Though strategy is relatively simple throughout Rogue Galaxy, you can never rely entirely on button mashing since managing health and ability points takes commitment and focus. Your party can be wiped out very quickly if you’re not careful.
LiverFluke
07-23-2007, 03:40 AM
Further complicating the battles are the various types of foes you will eventually face. Some enemies are tall and can only take damage when you jump and strike them in the head. Others have shields that must be deactivated through various concentrated means. Still others have varying patterns of vulnerability and can only be defeated when a weak point is exposed. Many of Rogue Galaxy’s boss fights also require special consideration.
Indeed, there is much to praise about the Rogue Galaxy battle system, but it is far from flawless. Though many enemies pose a legitimate threat, enemy parties who do not require special consideration can often be beaten in a matter of two to three seconds, and this serves as a problematic testament to the games lack of balancing.
The true appeal however of Rogue Galaxy comes from its ambitious scope. The main quest is very lengthy in and of itself, but the game is also peppered with enthralling side adventures. From bug collecting and fighting, to a factory simulator, to optional bounty hunting, the game has a lot of great diversions should you become too weighed down by the storyline.

Okay, this is the rest of my review. I figured out the problem. It doesn't allow the accent on the word "cliche."
~~~~~
Speaking of the storyline, it is a lot of fun to experience. The characters you meet along the way are all very interesting in their own way, and the voice acting, though cartoon-like in nature, is extremely appropriate and usually well acted. Some character backgrounds are unfortunately glossed over, but the story presented remains interesting, despite an occasional reliance on cliches.
Graphically Rogue Galaxy is a technical beauty. Cel-shading has never looked this good. The artistic approach to character design is at times a bit too cliched however much like the story. A few characters are remarkably unique such as Simon whose head looks like a combination between an alligator and a shoe, but others have a very familiar look. A long haired pirate with a beard and eye patch, and a scantily clad jungle woman are two examples of characters you may have first seen elsewhere.
Though there is nothing technically wrong with the visuals in this regard, the level design can be sometimes redundant. Many of Rogue Galaxy’s combat intensive areas are absolutely massive, but in being so they are also visually repetitive. Before the end of the game you will tread through a factory, a cave, a prison, and two giant towers. In every case the ending seems to come just a tad late. In the case of the towers it comes much too late.
The sound in Rogue Galaxy is quite good, with special praise to the aforementioned voice acting. During exploration and battle, characters can sometimes become annoying with their repeated one-liners, but this is a very minor complaint. The music is good and appropriate, but not exactly remarkable. Only one track stood out to me as being noticeably great, which is admittedly one track more than in 90% of the games I play. (For the record this track was the music accompanying the Kuje Desert.)
If you haven’t given Rogue Galaxy a look and you have even a passing interest in role playing games, I would encourage you to give this one a chance. The Playstation 2 may not be the attractive console it once was, but don’t let next-generation hype stand between you and one of the more solid RPG offerings available on consoles.
E.S.R.B rating: T (Blood/violence)
publisher: Square-soft
Developer: Electronic Arts
Platform: Playstation 2
Date of Release: 2001
Overview:
Final Fantasy 10 is rpg with the first final fantasy to include dialogue. This game also includes a whole new battle system with turn based action. It also includes a whole new feature for character design.
Description:
Final Fantasy 10 is game that revolves around a boy who is searching a world called Spira to defeat Sin and still return home to Zanarkand, a city that was destroyed a 1000 years ago.
Review:
I will start with graphics. The movements of all characters are completely real from the way they run to the way their bodies move and that goes for fiends to. The type of feature to the world is the ability to make the characters look like actual humans not to mention the incredible detail in color in all modes.
Now to battle style of the game. This game opens up a new type of battle style witch is the style of turn based battle. This particular style of battle allows one character to attack and next another character or the enemy its all listed at the top screen to show what character attacks next or you can skip turns with the triangle button.
Now with the controls. to move you use the Right analog stick and you cannot control the camera. to talk you press x and examine chests. to open the main menu you press triangle. and that is the jist of the controls.
Now for the replay ability. This game i would give it a high replay ability because it has a really good plot to the story and you have the option to twist your characters to your liking each game witch makes it more fun to play each plus in my opinion can be a very addicting game.
The sound in this game is incredible. Everything is amazing! The dogs sound like a real dog. the sound the characters fit their voice completely and the sound is just completely. an in the realism cut scenes the sound is even... it is just beyond me... you have to play it for yourself.
the fun factor is for me perfect. The reason is that you have the option to develop your characters however you please. Not to mention if you get bored and have played to long, you can play bliztball. Just to add to that you can collect their final weapons witch I will not mention. Not to say much other than you have an option to collect fiends to make even stronger ones.
Last but not least the story line. This story line revolves around this boy named Tidus who is trying to get back home to Zanakand and still help this girl defeat Sin. Although Sin is his only way back home. He is traveling with his newly found friends to Zanarkand(the ruined city) to defeat Sin( I am trying not to give to much away). His friends consist of Wakka(a blizter) , Lulu(Black mage), Kimarhi(A ronso), Riku(an alphed girl),Auron( friend of his old man) and Yuna( a summoner).
Right around the time of the theatrical release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Traveller's Tales released the surprisingly enjoyable Lego Star Wars, a kid-friendly action adventure game that inexplicably rendered the exploits of young Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi to look as though they were made out of Lego building blocks. It was a curious combination, but it worked because the gameplay was novel enough, the combined nostalgia for Star Wars and Legos was potent, and the experience was delivered with a humorous, lighthearted flair. Lego Star Wars II is an even better package than the original, due almost entirely to the fact that the emotional connection to A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi is much stronger for most people.
It works best as a nostalgia piece, but Lego Star Wars II is good fun on its own.
You start out in the Mos Eisley Cantina, which serves as a hub from which you can access all three episodes, as well as a counter where you can purchase extras like cheats and additional playable characters, and a new character creation counter. Initially you'll have access only to A New Hope, though you'll gain access to Empire and Jedi after beating the first chapter. The game hits nearly all of the most memorable sequences from all three films, and it does it all with a goofy sense of humor. Since the game will no doubt attract some hardcore Star Wars fans, it's also worth noting that Lego Star Wars II seems to be taking most of its cues from the original theatrical releases. This means you can expect Han to shoot first, Darth Vader to have eyebrows, and Return of the Jedi to end with the classic "Yub Yub" Ewok song. They're all minor points, but it's the kind of stuff that fans will definitely appreciate.
Lego Star Wars II is still primarily an action adventure game in which you control a group of characters as they blast their way through enemies and do some light puzzle-solving and the occasional platform-jumping. The size of your group expands and contracts regularly, growing as large as seven characters and shrinking down to a mere two characters at times. You control only one character at a time, and you can switch characters easily on the fly. Your artificial intelligence-controlled companions are pretty worthless, save for a few specific scripted sequences. There's also a small loophole where enemies rarely target droid characters, which makes it easy to walk right through certain areas unscathed. Usually, though, the characters you're dragging around are there for a reason, as there are several different classes of characters, each with unique abilities that you'll need to progress. Jedi characters sport lightsabers, can perform double-jumps, and can use their Force powers to manipulate certain objects in the environment. Regular hero characters like Princess Leia and Han Solo pack blasters and can use special grappling hook points to reach areas other characters cannot. C3PO and R2D2 can open special doors and activate certain equipment, and R2 has the added bonus of being able to hover short distances. Short characters like Jawas and Ewoks can access special ducts that lead to otherwise inaccessible areas.
These character classes were all in the original, though they've been tweaked slightly. All nondroid characters are able to assemble random piles of Legos into usable devices, something that originally only Jedi were capable of; many blaster-wielding characters will now auto-dodge incoming blaster fire; and most characters now have unique melee attacks--it's great to watch Chewie rip a stormtrooper's arms right out of their sockets or to see Lando pull off a rising dragon punch as if he were Ryu. Not only do all these refinements make non-Jedi characters more useful, they also lend the game a bit more personality. New to Lego Star Wars II are doors that can be accessed only by stormtroopers or bounty hunters. Since you'll never have either in your party when playing in story mode, you'll have to rely on special helmet machines, which will give your character the appearance of either a storm trooper or a bounty hunter. It's a fragile ruse, though, because one shot from an enemy causes the helmet to fall off. The bounty hunter disguise also grants you the ability to toss out thermal detonators, which can be used to eliminate certain otherwise indestructible objects.
Lego Star Wars II puts a greater emphasis on vehicles than the original. You'll happen upon small carts, landspeeders, and AT-STs that you can pilot in the action adventure chapters, though there are also chapters dedicated to memorable sequences like destroying both of the Death Stars, fighting off imperial forces in your snowspeeder on Hoth, and racing speeder bikes through the forests of Endor. These dedicated vehicle chapters make the game feel more epic and break up the action nicely, but Hoth has been done to death already, and some of the sequences aren't as visceral as you might like. This is due largely to a stiff camera, something that occasionally hampers the action adventure levels as well. The camera usually stays in a fixed position, and though you're allowed a little wiggle room, there are a few specific points where it's easy to get stuck because the path is obscured.
There's no dedicated multiplayer component to Lego Star Wars II, though it does offer cooperative play, and at any point a second player can just jump right in. It works seamlessly and reduces the number of generally useless AI companions, but it's also disappointing that no version of Lego Star Wars II features online co-op. Whether you're playing alone or with a friend, Lego Star Wars II is easy. As long as you're pointing in the general direction, blaster fire has a way of finding enemies on its own, and death is barely punished with a small loss of money. It should probably take you around six hours to make your way through all three episodes the first time around, but there's plenty of additional content to keep you coming back.
Once you play through a level in the story mode, you can play it again in free play mode, which gives you some control over which characters you'll play as, and you'll find that each chapter is absolutely packed with secrets and areas that you simply couldn't get to with the story mode characters. You'll unlock plenty of additional characters simply by playing the game, but there are others that you'll need to purchase in the shop, and still others that you can unlock with a game save from the original Lego Star Wars, if it appeared on the system you're playing on. The free play mode also lets you use your own custom-made characters, which you can build using pieces of other playable characters. It doesn't effect the gameplay, but there's still something really funny about putting Darth Vader's head on Princess Leia's body when she's in her slave costume. Several different types of collectibles, an unlockable series of bounty hunter missions, and time trial mode all help to create some good lasting value.
Though the game is appearing on no less than eight different platforms, most of these versions are virtually indistinguishable. Featurewise, the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PC versions of Lego Star Wars II are nearly identical, and the PSP version is awfully close, though it takes a slightly different approach to certain unlockables, and it also has much more pronounced loading times. The current-gen console versions all look slightly better than the original Lego Star Wars, while the PC version looks a bit better than those, since it can run at much higher resolutions. By default, the PC version implements a kind of goofy keyboard only control scheme, though it’s easily modified. There’s also gamepad support, and we found that a wired Xbox 360 controller automatically mapped all of the controls to the appropriate buttons.
The character creation system allows for some pretty comical combinations.
The Xbox 360 version has the most graphical flair, with better reflections, better explosions, and a cool lens-focus effect that makes objects too close to or too far from the camera appear slightly blurry. It's definitely the best-looking version, but it's also got a very minor frame rate problem that crops up when there are a lot of particle effects. The achievement points in the Xbox 360 version are pretty well balanced. You’ll probably get almost 200 points just by playing through all three episodes, though there is also a string of achievements that require you to complete entire chapters without dying once, which in some cases is no small feat.
Regardless of the platform, though, the visuals have a ton of charm. Getting to see recognizable Lego pieces mingling with recognizable Star Wars characters and locales is just really endearing, and Lego Star Wars II does it quite well. A vast library of recognizable sound effects and that unshakably rousing John Williams score make the experience feel that much more authentic, and even though there's no real voice acting in the game, some miming and appropriate-sounding mumbles make it apparent what's going on.
As much fun as Lego Star Wars II is, it's unfortunate that it had to come second. Some of the novelty of the gameplay, as well as the concept itself, isn't quite as potent as it was the first time around. The original Star Wars trilogy just seems more deserving of this nostalgic treatment than the prequels. Still, anyone with even a sliver of nostalgia for Star Wars will find this to be a fun, good-natured romp.
Heavenly Sword Was the first next generation Game announced, it has been in development for 4 Years at Sony's cambridge studious. Yes, early on this game seemed it may be a button mashing screen tearing mess. It was far from it. In fact it was a genuinely great game.
Okay, where to start. well Lets start with the combat of Nariko.
The combat isn't too great at first. but then you use the heavenly sword. it is really Good. When I first got it I was expecting a banal 'Genji' style game. its far from it, with 3 cool and effective stances to use this game doesn't reun dry of great combat throughout.
Secondly we'll review Kai.
Well she is good and Sixaxis is the best use of it on PlayStation3 (so far) and avoidance techniques are cool, but I can't help but think that there should have been lees Kai and more focus on the Weilder of the heavenly Sword, Nariko, As well, it does get a slight bit boring and a little tedious playing as Kai and having to run away from enemies only to turn around and shoot them with the crossbow.
The story is really amazing. Once you play Heavenly sword for an hour or so you can't stop untill you find out what happens. The FMV sequences are brilliantly put across and Andy Serkis Makes it so lifelike that you just can't bring yourself to even try to skip them.
Difficulty. While the game isn't very challenging on its first difficulty level, When you get to hell mode or beyond the game is reasonably challenging. Also no one can deny the high difficulty of the final boss, it took me no less than 4 attempts to defeat him on the Lowest difficulty mode
Overall
Highs-
Superb combat system
Inspired use of the SixAxis Motion sensing Technology
Absolutely stunning visuals
Brilliant story
Amazing overall experience
Lows-
Perhaps too many Kai missions
Over far too soon
In a sentence- Great, brilliant SixAxis, story and gameplay, but a little too short
Score- 87%
We are looking for more people who can review games and answer questions that are posted both in forum and on site.
CheatMaster is willing to give away games for those who prove to be good site game reviewers. Therefore ... we decided to start here in the forums before we invited anyone to be a site game reviewer. (for an example look here: http://www.cheatmasters.com/review.php?id=168&start=&platform=PS2)
If there is enough interest and we start to see some decent reviews I will create a review board here and those who show promise as a good reviewer may well be asked to do reviews for the site.
If you wish to review a game, post the game title, what platform you have played it on and your description and review of the game in this board. As I said, if we get enough interest I will open a board specifically for game reviews.
So let's see what ya got? throw us some reviews and perhaps you too can be a CheatMaster game reviewer and win free games! :TooHappy:
I've played Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on Wii and I've finished the game and done everything with it even used every single cheat.First of all, let me start this off by saying this game is really great and a must have for any Mario and golf fan. You should like this game if you buy it. Let me first start out with graphics. The graphics are fully used in this game and has graphics quality of next gen. There are little to no graphics glitches in this game and that makes it very enjoyable. You can pretty much tell by looking at the back of the box that this game looks good. I personally had a hard time playing in the beginning because you now have the option of having the accuracy automatically chosen. So I had a bit of trouble with that. I would suggest that when you first play the game, to play Stroke Play so you can get a feel of the game before you actually play in the tournament. The gameplay of this game is nothing sub-par. Almost anyone who plays the game will find it an enjoyable game. I thought that Tournament was awesome, but after a while I found that it got too easy. If you are a little more seasoned at the game, then Star Tournament will definetly provide a challenge.
I liked the side options as well like coin attack, and speed golf. These I found were pretty cool things seeing as I don't remember seeing them in the original Mario Golf. Of all the courses in the game, I think my favorite one would have to be the fourth course you unlock: Mushroom Kingdom one. This one has the most integration that come from other games, such as Pikmin and other older Mario Games. I would say all of the courses provide enough challenge and would be fun no matter how many times you play them. I also reccomend people that have never played any Mario Golg game start with Training Mode. You should learn all the controls in about ten to fifteen minutes and soon you should be ready for the tournaments.
Some new additions to the game that I think are pretty cool are Club Shots and the ability to see replays of Birdies, Eagles, Holes in One, and Albatrosses. Let me start with Club Shots. In this mode, you can only play with a certain number of clubs such as three or four, and they alternate every hole meaning that you choose new clubs every hole and you also can choose to get a bonus for that hole, such as an extra Power Shot or Perfect Accuracy. I can say that more advanced players try this mode because you may not get a very good set of clubs every hole. The videos are one of the best things in the game, Being able to prove that you finally got that Eagle or Hole in One. I have found that this option is pretty cool. I personally have only one Hole in One, in the hole that looks like Mount Rushmore with the rock sculptures of Mario and the gang. This feature again is pretty awesome.
The game also keeps statistics of how well you have done on each course in Tournament Mode. I found this to pretty pretty neat because I now can see what my farthest drive was, what was my best score on each course, and things like par saves and sand saves.
That is what I have for now. If you want anything else, just let me know
~Review~
Well, the game is pretty good. You go on missions, going through many cities, like Los Santos [Los Angeles] San Fierro [San Francisco] and Las Venturas [Las Vegas]. I know I'm under the rating, but what the heck.
You play as CJ, Carl Johnson, and the only reason he's in San Andreas is because his mother was murdered. But, getting there was a problem. When you start the game, your in video mode in a taxi. The video shows the taxi getting pulled over, and you getting arrested.
When the game starts, you only have $350 and a bicycle. The game has a variety of controls, and many weapons. I'll end here, so you can find out the rest.
~Overall~
Good game, great graphics, many missions
SmackDown Vs Raw 2007Graphics 9/10 The graphics aren't perfect but atleast the screen isn't blurry,you can see.
Gameplay 7/10 It's pretty staight forward except some of the modes and the moves you'll eventually get used to it
Characters 10/10 Lots of characters in the game, so many to choose from you'll never run out of them.
Length 10/10 Game can vertually go on forever, gets boring after a while.
Overall 8.5/10 Very good game, play as lots of characters from both brands, lots of different challenges.
ESRB Rating 16+ Some swearing in the game, can be violent at times. Overall it's a WRESTLING game.
~ Review~
The games have changed many times throughout the years but this is probally the best. You have to go into season mode to earn money which you can spend on ether characters loker room upgrades or some on some other things.You have a general manager mode where you manage your roster and you ether pick a preset roster or create your own, also you get to make the matches and promos.
~New features~
There aren't many new features, most of them are just improved from the last games.
That is all i'm going to tell you for now so you must buy the game to find out the rest.
Aeria Games' Last Chaos
Personal Computer
Graphics
The Graphics on a scale of one to 10 would be about 7.5 Its graphics are 3D Remarkably similar to World of Warcraft. A 3d able to walk.
Gameplay
The Gameplay is even more like World of Warcraft, An action bar with different spells and ability to where you just press the button and it casts the spell, a interactive map at the top showing you where to go as well as an Exp/Level configuration. The game uses a click to move system as well as an interactive camera.
Interface
The game features a guild net where you can create or join a club, to create a club you have to go to a "Royal Guard Captain" and when you create a guild people can go up to you and apply for it, you can approve or deny it. The Buy items interface is standard go to the appropriate vendor press buy or sell and you click the item's icon and it will tell you how much you can buy/sell if for. For the group interface you can invite up to 9-10 people to a group.
Economics
The Econimics of the game work simple you can get gold from killing monsters selling items or completing quests.
Economics(Real Money)
Like all Free Web RPGs it has something for them to profit from. Aeria Points! You dont need them for any initial game play you can just buy extra stuff for your gameplay from the "Item Mall".
Playability
This game is playable for maybe age 13 and up, partly because its so confusing.
But so far as content go its suitable for all ages.
Sound
The sound for this game is pretty high quality, that is if you like fantasy opera.
Overall Rating
The overall rating I give this game is around C+ to a B-
Well, this is the sequal to the Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles. The whole game is about defeating the Shirogane Clan, the puppet masters. The Shirogane Clan is after the Spirit Orbs, and before the game starts they have 4/5: the Fire Orb, Melee Orb, Life Orb, and Magic Orb. You must take the chance of retrieving the Lightning Orb, the last one. You go through a series of 10 total missions, but they take so long I gave the length a 9. So, if the Shirogane Clan gets the five Spirit Orbs, they can revive the Master Puppet, the invincible puppet [the boss of Chapter 10]. But, as you proceed, you unlock many characters, including Kankuro and Gaara. When the Shirogane Clan get all the orbs, they relize they can't proceed with the Ressurection Ritual with you infiltrating their bases all the time! So, anyways, the point of the game is to get past the Shirogane Clan and destroy the Master Puppet.
Shirogane Three:
Male 1: Puppet: Lizard
Male 2: Puppets: Fire and Water Humanoids
Female: Puppets: Light, Earth and Darkness Cicadas
Graphics
The Graphics on this Game Are By far the best I've seen, it scores a 10/10.
Gameplay
The GamePlay is pretty simple in some forms but mostly Complicated for about 15+ but as far As Content: all ages. You can Create your own character, start off as many differant races and classes and the way to talk to people is Simple. Gameplay Easy 10/10
Interface
The Interfaces are standard at parts, Be able to equip weapons, armor, Trinkets Relics, and Be able to become rich Fast. 8/10 Its confusing at some points.
Economics
The Economics are simple there are 3 unit meassures Copper being the least Value Silver being Average Value And Gold Being most value As for becoming rich on the game here is a simple key:
100 Copper= 1 Silver
100 Silver= 1 Gold
100 Gold= 100 Gold(This is the highest unit it doesnt have a trade in unit)
Pretty simple Right? Economics score is 9/10
Economics(real money
This game is a Internet RPG Not a free one You have to pay $15.00/mo. to play, which I think is Bogus 2/10 but the $15.00 is well worth it.
Playability
The Playibility is for maybe all ages, because its simple when you figure it out, as for content goes All Ages, but since other people are playing with you in the game for children under say 8 should have perental Supervision while playing. CAUTION: This game is very adicting just like CM, do not get adicted or you will never wanna get out of your chair lol.
Sound
The Sound an easy 9/10 because the sound is high quality very....The kind of music that gets you into the game, and also because it has a voice chat system.
Overall Rating
I give it a A+ because its my favorite game, and because you can have hours of fun just figuring out how to play it...
Developer: DOLBY Pro Logic 2
ESRB Rating: T
~Information~
This game comes with the Wii Zapper.
You can buy it seperate on some where like Ebay, but it woulden't do you much good with out the Wii Zapper.
It is designed for the Wii Zapper.
~Graphics~
The graphics one this game are amazing. The graphics come from The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, so the graphics are 3D. The background is amazing as well it is very detailed.
The targets and monsters are good to. Every thing about the graphics are amazing.
~Gameplay~
The game play is the best part about the game, for example there are nine levels, each has three stages. Also there are three different game types, these are the game types:
Target Shooting: Which is shooting targets, gold targets are worth more, and if you shoot targets whith X's on them you lose points
Defender: Which is where you take out hords of enemies as they attack.
Ranger: Which is where you seek out your enemies in a number of different settings. There is set amount of monsters, if you kill them all you get a big bonus.
On all of them you get bonus points for consecutive hits.
Also you can shoot exsplosive arrow by holding down the B button.
You can get automatic by shooting a monster that is glowing green.
~Sound~
The sound on this game is amazing, the sounds are very realistic, like when you shoot a target. Also when you shoot a monster it makes the same noise as in the Zelda Twilight Princess game. The music also comes from the Zelda Twilight Princess game. Every thing makes such a realistic sound.
~Review~
I must say that this game is very fun and challenging, which makes it last longer. There is plenty of things to shoot on the game. Pretty much just about every thing you shoot that looks breakable will most likely give you points. Here are some things you can shoot: Pots, signs, scarecrows, pumpkins, skulls, bones, barrels, and doors. Also there is more things to do, like getting medals, these are the medals: bronze, silver, gold, platinum. If you some how get all platinum, and think thats it you could go to practice and see how high you can score. If that is boring then there is also multiplayer. With this game you should never get bored. Also I must say this is a get way to learn how to use the Wii Zapper.
-Storyline-
A popular ranch hand, Link is a brave teenager who has a high reputation for his work.
Rusl, a swordsman is asked by the mayor of Ordon Village to deliver a sword to Hyrule Castle. But Rusl wants Link to go in his place. Link agreed,since he would be able to see the wide world around him.
Meanwhile at Hyrule Castle, Princess Zelda has a visitor. Mysterious shadow beasts raid the castle, taking the Hylian army captive. But a new person comes. Zant, the king of twilight demands that Zelda should surrender, or die. Defeated, Zelda surrenders to this evil force that has crept into the land.
Link, unaware of this force has yet another problem. The children of the village raced after a monkey, who has been a little thief. Link dashed into the heart of the forest, searching in vain to find the children. As he explored the woods, he sees monsters and realizes that a child and the monkey have been kidnapped.
After saving the children, he gets stabbed in the back by Illia, who leads his horse Epona away. Link tried to apologize to Illia, but until a boy softens her heart does she realize tha it was an accident.
Ugh, monsters raid the spring, and knock Link out. They take the boy and Illia captive. Horrified, Link dashed to the forest, to find a dark,powerful barrier blocking the path.
A shadow beast grabs Link and pulls him in to the Twilight Realm. Link turns into a wolf, meets Midna(an implike ally), and returns to Ordon Village. As Link finds his true form to be a hero, he searches for Zelda wanting to save her from the invaders.
Will the hero rise again?
I have 17 reviews posted here, two are starred for excellence:
gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/38449.html?type=4
Here is an example or two of my reviews:
We all know Mario and his history as the greatest game character of all time. But what will he play like on Nintendo's latest and greatest console, the Nintendo Wii? That's what I'm here to tell you about. I excitedly received my copy for Christmas, and I'll tell you that it is certainly worth the wait!
One of my bigger concerns for this game would be how it controls, and Nintendo proved to be innovative in it's scheme. You can point the remote at the screen and move the pointer around to collect little jewels called "Star Bits". You can fire these bits at enemies to stun them, or at friendly Luma's to feed them until they transform into other useful places and items. The only other Wii motion sensitive control is a small shake of the controller, which makes Mario perform a spin attack. This attack is very responsive and rarely fails in a time you need it. The other controls are simple button presses that nobody should have trouble using or understanding if you've played Mario 64.
The story behind Super Mario Galaxy is rather poor to be truthful, but Nintendo is always known for poor cliche stories. The Princess is taken away by Bowser (as usual), but this time Bowser is taking her into deep space. Mario discovers a strange observatory led by a woman and many star-like creatures called Luma's. He must collect the Power Stars once more if he wishes to save Princess Peach.
The story itself is unengaging but provides an acceptable platform into this platformer. If you want more story, you can visit the in-game Library and read a story about how the Observatory came to be there. This backstory is mildly interesting and helps save the story from being a complete flop.
The Graphics for Galaxy are the best graphics in Mario history and on the Wii for that matter. While they may not be Resistance: Fall of Man quality they are still aesthetically pleasing and are nothing to complain about. From an artistic standpoint, they are downright amazing!
The sounds of Mario Galaxy are mainly Mario screaming "Wahoo", or clear ringing of you collecting and firing star bits. The music playing the background is usually cool old-school Mario remixes or the occassional new song that is extremely catchy.
The REAL thing you are asking is "How is the gameplay?", well, the gameplay is fun and addictive but not quite perfect. My biggest complaint for this game is that each time you revisit a map, it gives you a linear path to a star. I preferred Mario 64's approach to giving you a big map, and just having a small new thing that leads to a star, but instead the whole level is often rearranged. This doesn't feel anything like a side-scrolling Mario, more like a marathon.
There are several galaxies per areas, some carry multiple stars in them, while others carry one star. The really fun ones are the one star areas because they usually required a little more exploration or a single mini-game such as surfing on a course. These were the real gems.
A new addition to Galaxy that wasn't in the past is the new gravity system. The gravity adds a few fun challenges in which you have to adjust Mario to make sure he doesn't die. The gravity also adds some exploration (which as I said before, is a bit lacking) because he can now go on the bottom of platforms, not just the top. This is a really cool feature!
The Hub World, unlike 64's Castle, is rather small and not hard to figure out. You'll memorize locations in no time and there are no hidden stars here. I preferred again the big area where you could look around, and it would have been wonderful if they could've given us an extra 10 stars to hide around the hub world.
Each Galaxy is a brand new area that has a great somewhat original theme, and it's often worth just seeing where you'll end up next, nevermind playing the levels. The game also features a sort of "multiplayer" mode, which hands over a second remote to a second player so they can collect and shoot stars at enemies, this can be kind of cool as one person can then concentrate on running and jumping while the other makes sure they stay safe.
All in all, Mario Galaxy is worth the purchase, especially since the Wii Library is slightly lacking at the moment. Though I don't see how it won Game of the Year, it's still a great game that you should definitely get.
Ex. Mario Strikers
As a Mario fan and a Soccer Player, I was very happy to hear that Nintendo was now releasing a sports game based on soccer. They've used many other sports in the past, but nothing like this before. So, on Christmas, I received this as a gift. I placed my copy in the Gamecube and pressed the power button. Here are my thoughts:
Gameplay
The Gameplay of Strikers is much like indoor soccer meets hockey. There are no fouls or penalties, just straight playing until someone scores. Match times can be set, then you play and try to score more than the other. If you tie, it goes into sudden death. Normal, right?
There are several moves you pull, headers, bicycle kicks, slide tackles and the feature new to soccer: Big Hits. You can now smash players over (even if they do not have the ball) and run away with it. You can also slide tackle other players, but if you hit from behind, you will take longer to get back up. If you hit someone into the board, they are shocked with electricity for many seconds. The hits are BRUTAL. No joke.
To prevent players from going gung-ho on their runs of smashing and crashing, Nintendo made it so that all cheap hits award the team that got pasted an item they can use on the other team. I prefer to turn items off because I can't count how many times I've been playing and messed up thanks to items.
The players can choose a captain and their choice of Sidekicks. The sidekicks don't do anything but give you teammates, while the Captain determines the position. For example, a Balanced player will play defensively and passive aggressively. While an Aggressive will play on forward.
A feature included is the "super strike". This is a very cheap move that will give you TWO goals providing you can pull it off properly. If you mess it up, the goalie will beat it at you and you are knocked out for a bit. Only the captain can perform this move, except for the unlockable team, where everyone can use it. Fortunately, this feature can be disabled.
The Goalies are quite good at some points. They are invincible to hits, as if you touch the other team's goalie, they will smash you to the ground. They will pull of huge save most of the time, but most of the goals are just unlucky. Passes and crosses are your best chance. Every once and a while you can pull a big deke on a keeper, but you have to go at the exactly right moment. Sometimes you will stun the other goalie, allowing a small slide in.
Another feature is the "Bowser Attack". Bowser will sometimes show up and beat the crud out of whoever has the ball. This can be disabled.
There are a number of game modes: Such as the cups, or instant matches. There are even custom tournaments you can use for playing in a tourney with some friends. This is fun. You earn trophies for cup play, for hits, goals, games etc.
There are a number of "cheats" that can be unlocked which are mainly for fun. Things like "field tilt" will make the field tilt sideways as you play, making the ball harder to control. There are also custom item settings, so you can use "shells only" for example.
Gameplay is overall very good, with a few bad things mainly because of overdone features.
8.5/10
Graphics/Sound
The Graphics for this game are nothing amazing, like most Gamecube games. They are polished and nice, which is what you only really need. They won't make you sick but they won't make you go "WOW!" The female characters (Peach and Daisy) have caused a lot of controversy with their scanty uniforms, but this is fine as long as you are over 12 years old or mature enough.
The Sounds are nice, the character sounds are great, mainly grunting and celebrations. The music isn't usually heard because you are too absorbed by the crowd and the gameplay. Sudden Death music is a whole new pace.
Sound: 8.8/10
Graphics: 7.5/10
Play Time/Replayability
Sports games are always replayable forever, or until you are bored of them. Whatever comes first, you know? The Single Player unlocks and things will take you maybe 10-15 hours at most, while the multiplayer lasts as long as there are friends around really. Cheats extend this until the life of the game is about 30 hours, depending on your devotion.
Replayability: 9/10
Buy or Rent?
If you can find this game for under $30 Canadian (or about 25 dollars american) then you should definitely get this. Any more and you might be regretting purchasing this depending on your result. If not, rent it! If you rent it, then don't buy it because most of the fun will be taken with the rented copy.
Overall Rating: 8/10
Super Mario Strikers is once more, a great game with a few annoying parts. No real "problems" just features that have been over featured and made ridiculous.
Ok folks just a heads up here..
We are still working on our authoring program but I wanted to use TripleJump as an example of the type of work we are looking for. Please read his reviews and see how complete they are and what they contain. It will give you a good idea of the type of work that is expected of your reviews.
IF someone is really interested in doing game reviews for CM then I am willing to work one on one with them until we get our program up and fully running. But it has to be quality work for us to post in public.
Thanks !!
ps: Triplejump sorry to use your work as an example but it IS the type of work we are looking for :D
The only other Wii motion sensitive control is a small shake of the controller, which makes Mario perform a spin attack. This attack is very responsive and rarely fails in a time you need it. The other controls are simple button presses that nobody should have trouble using or understanding if you've played Mario 64.
The story behind Super Mario Galaxy is rather poor to be truthful, but Nintendo is always known for poor cliche stories. The Princess is taken away by Bowser (as usual), but this time Bowser is taking her into deep space. Mario discovers a strange observatory led by a woman and many star-like creatures called Luma's. He must collect the Power Stars once more if he wishes to save Princess Peach.
The story itself is unengaging but provides an acceptable platform into this platformer. If you want more story, you can visit the in-game Library and read a story about how the Observatory came to be there. This backstory is mildly interesting and helps save the story from being a complete flop.
The Graphics for Galaxy are the best graphics in Mario history and on the Wii for that matter. While they may not be Resistance: Fall of Man quality they are still aesthetically pleasing and are nothing to complain about. From an artistic standpoint, they are downright amazing!
The sounds of Mario Galaxy are mainly Mario screaming "Wahoo", or clear ringing of you collecting and firing star bits. The music playing the background is usually cool old-school Mario remixes or the occassional new song that is extremely catchy.
The REAL thing you are asking is "How is the gameplay?", well, the gameplay is fun and addictive but not quite perfect. My biggest complaint for this game is that each time you revisit a map, it gives you a linear path to a star. I preferred Mario 64's approach to giving you a big map, and just having a small new thing that leads to a star, but instead the whole level is often rearranged. This doesn't feel anything like a side-scrolling Mario, more like a marathon.
There are several galaxies per areas, some carry multiple stars in them, while others carry one star. The really fun ones are the one star areas because they usually required a little more exploration or a single mini-game such as surfing on a course. These were the real gems.
A new addition to Galaxy that wasn't in the past is the new gravity system. The gravity adds a few fun challenges in which you have to adjust Mario to make sure he doesn't die. The gravity also adds some exploration (which as I said before, is a bit lacking) because he can now go on the bottom of platforms, not just the top. This is a really cool feature!
The Hub World, unlike 64's Castle, is rather small and not hard to figure out. You'll memorize locations in no time and there are no hidden stars here. I preferred again the big area where you could look around, and it would have been wonderful if they could've given us an extra 10 stars to hide around the hub world.
Each Galaxy is a brand new area that has a great somewhat original theme, and it's often worth just seeing where you'll end up next, nevermind playing the levels. The game also features a sort of "multiplayer" mode, which hands over a second remote to a second player so they can collect and shoot stars at enemies, this can be kind of cool as one person can then concentrate on running and jumping while the other makes sure they stay safe.
All in all, Mario Galaxy is worth the purchase, especially since the Wii Library is slightly lacking at the moment. Though I don't see how it won Game of the Year, it's still a great game that you should definitely get.
Ex. Mario Strikers
As a Mario fan and a Soccer Player, I was very happy to hear that Nintendo was now releasing a sports game based on soccer. They've used many other sports in the past, but nothing like this before. So, on Christmas, I received this as a gift. I placed my copy in the Gamecube and pressed the power button. Here are my thoughts:
Gameplay
The Gameplay of Strikers is much like indoor soccer meets hockey. There are no fouls or penalties, just straight playing until someone scores. Match times can be set, then you play and try to score more than the other. If you tie, it goes into sudden death. Normal, right?
There are several moves you pull, headers, bicycle kicks, slide tackles and the feature new to soccer: Big Hits. You can now smash players over (even if they do not have the ball) and run away with it. You can also slide tackle other players, but if you hit from behind, you will take longer to get back up. If you hit someone into the board, they are shocked with electricity for many seconds. The hits are BRUTAL. No joke.
To prevent players from going gung-ho on their runs of smashing and crashing, Nintendo made it so that all cheap hits award the team that got pasted an item they can use on the other team. I prefer to turn items off because I can't count how many times I've been playing and messed up thanks to items.
The players can choose a captain and their choice of Sidekicks. The sidekicks don't do anything but give you teammates, while the Captain determines the position. For example, a Balanced player will play defensively and passive aggressively. While an Aggressive will play on forward.
A feature included is the "super strike". This is a very cheap move that will give you TWO goals providing you can pull it off properly. If you mess it up, the goalie will beat it at you and you are knocked out for a bit. Only the captain can perform this move, except for the unlockable team, where everyone can use it. Fortunately, this feature can be disabled.
The Goalies are quite good at some points. They are invincible to hits, as if you touch the other team's goalie, they will smash you to the ground. They will pull of huge save most of the time, but most of the goals are just unlucky. Passes and crosses are your best chance. Every once and a while you can pull a big deke on a keeper, but you have to go at the exactly right moment. Sometimes you will stun the other goalie, allowing a small slide in.
Another feature is the "Bowser Attack". Bowser will sometimes show up and beat the crud out of whoever has the ball. This can be disabled.
There are a number of game modes: Such as the cups, or instant matches. There are even custom tournaments you can use for playing in a tourney with some friends. This is fun. You earn trophies for cup play, for hits, goals, games etc.
There are a number of "cheats" that can be unlocked which are mainly for fun. Things like "field tilt" will make the field tilt sideways as you play, making the ball harder to control. There are also custom item settings, so you can use "shells only" for example.
Gameplay is overall very good, with a few bad things mainly because of overdone features.
8.5/10
Graphics/Sound
The Graphics for this game are nothing amazing, like most Gamecube games. They are polished and nice, which is what you only really need. They won't make you sick but they won't make you go "WOW!" The female characters (Peach and Daisy) have caused a lot of controversy with their scanty uniforms, but this is fine as long as you are over 12 years old or mature enough.
The Sounds are nice, the character sounds are great, mainly grunting and celebrations. The music isn't usually heard because you are too absorbed by the crowd and the gameplay. Sudden Death music is a whole new pace.
Sound: 8.8/10
Graphics: 7.5/10
Play Time/Replayability
Sports games are always replayable forever, or until you are bored of them. Whatever comes first, you know? The Single Player unlocks and things will take you maybe 10-15 hours at most, while the multiplayer lasts as long as there are friends around really. Cheats extend this until the life of the game is about 30 hours, depending on your devotion.
Replayability: 9/10
Buy or Rent?
If you can find this game for under $30 Canadian (or about 25 dollars american) then you should definitely get this. Any more and you might be regretting purchasing this depending on your result. If not, rent it! If you rent it, then don't buy it because most of the fun will be taken with the rented copy.
Overall Rating: 8/10
Super Mario Strikers is once more, a great game with a few annoying parts. No real "problems" just features that have been over featured and made ridiculous.
Game: Super Smash Bros Brawl (Pt 1/2 of my review)
Back in the day, there was a game that was released on the Nintendo 64 called “Super Smash Bros.” While it was small and developed on a low budget, it was awesome! Where else could you play as all your favourite Nintendo players and have Mario punch Yoshi until he died? This game was an amazing concept and put a twist on the fighting genre.
Thus, when Super Smash Bros. Melee came out, it was a phenomenon! With even more lovable characters, improved graphics and modes, it enjoyed critical and financial success as one of the highest selling games for the Gamecube. It also became the first Nintendo game to be featured in a professional league. Melee was an amazing game that took Super Smash Bros. on the N64 and improved it in almost infinite ways!
Then came the announcement of Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. The hype was on, would the greatest game for the Gamecube become even greater? With every announcement things sounded better: new characters, new moves and most important of all is the inclusion of online play!
This game was delayed several times to make improvements, which makes perfect sense. The developers had to make sure this was the perfect game, it was not only the pressure from the Melee fans but it was also going to be nearly vital to keep interest with the Wii. Ever since the Gamecube, there has been almost zero third party support with Nintendo, thus they needed to make sure whenever they released a first party game it better be extremely good.
Did the developers succeed in creating the perfect game? No, they did not make the perfect game. However they did succeed in creating a good game. Let’s take a look, shall we?
GAMEPLAY:
The biggest flaw with Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the fact that some aspects of the Gameplay were improved, but some parts actually took a step down. I’ll start with the positive aspects and move onto the negative.
The improvements on Brawl, where there were any are great! The new characters are a welcome addition as you now have more choice to what you can play as. The new characters are on the whole less clone like and have unique moves. This allows for more specialization with characters as you have to be smart to achieve a lot of success.
One thing I do wish about them was that some of the moves were more balanced, Pit’s Forward B move, for example is nearly impossible to escape from unless you wait until your damage is high enough. Similar to this is Ike’s Up B move, which makes him virtually invulnerable while he uses it.
In addition to the new characters, we have new stages and new items. The stages have made some improvements in giving us more fair places to battle, but some stages such as 75m are simply horrid to play on. They also gave us a Stage Builder, which sounds like a good idea at first but when you actually use it you will find out you have to unlock the stage parts first, and even then the choice you have of things to put in is very small and in the end most of your stages will be nearly unplayable.
The items are fine; there are no real “cheap” items beyond the ones that were already cheap in the first place. I never play with items on anyway because I feel it upsets the balance too great when playing to have any real fun (I’ll get to that later). One important item addition is the “Smash Ball”, which floats around and you have to break it. If you are the one to break it, you get an all powerful attack that will either kill your opponent or deal him a lot of damage called a “Final Smash”. These attacks, while sometimes cheap allow for a lot of laughs at parties.
Another positive addition is you can do a lot of Co-Op in single player modes such as the Stadium Events (Home Run Contest, Multi-man Melee), Event Matches and most importantly the all new Subspace Emissary. The Subspace Emissary is the upgraded version of Melee’s “Adventure Mode”, and contains many new levels and some beautiful cut scenes that tell a story. The only flaw I found with the story is that none of the characters actually talk, leaving your imagination to it.
The levels in the Subspace Emissary can get somewhat dull, as basically all you are doing is running from the left side of the screen to the right side (side scroller) while avoiding all the enemies. It was actually fairly easy and you will blow through it in a couple of days. By completing this mode you can get every character unlocked right at the beginning and it’s no longer a challenge to get them all.
Speaking of unlockables, you get a big challenge section with a box for every thing you can unlock in the game. If you unlock one, you can see the requirements of all the challenges around it. There are also some “Golden Hammers” you collect to break some boxes. However, it doesn’t work on all of them which can be a pain as some are quite hard to unlock. And it’s also a pain that a lot of the Music and less important things start unlocked because you can’t enjoy them from the start.
Now it’s time to focus on the real negative aspects:
Brawl’s online mode is just terrible, although I suppose it is better than nothing. Basically, you add “friend codes” to get your friends on, however it’s not simply one person adds the other and they get a message saying that you added them, they have to add you too. One of the worst things is you can’t communicate with your friend besides four small messages that come up when you taunt. It’s hard to tell someone you have to go and it can leave them wondering if you just lost connection or if you’re stopping playing.
The play with people you don’t know mode is just awful. Nintendo is too afraid that little kids might get molested to put in a decent online mode. You can only play a timed match with four other people (yes, it waits until it is full) before you play. I prefer 1v1 stock matches, but I’m forced to play 1v1v1v1 Timed Matches. You can’t communicate with people you play with in any way, and you can’t add them to your friends list either.
Not to mention the online loading time. Fortunately they did give you a waiting room where you beat up a sandbag while waiting. This is about the best part of the online. And the worst part of it all is the lag. While some matches have been virtually lag free I’ve taken part in some where I could press the jump button and literally could count four seconds before my character even started to move. Stick to playing with friends in real life.
Now to get down on Brawl’s new physics engine, what was so wrong with the old one? They changed the engine to remove tactics that made Melee players better than the average gamer such as Wavedashing, L-Canceling and that sort of thing. Okay, fair enough, but did they have to take out the fast paced battles of Melee? It’s all so slow now, and the engine was tweaked so most of the time you will be in aerial combat. This is a huge change because in Melee I was doing short hops and beating the crud out of my enemy, but now I’m in the air going extremely slow trying to hit my enemies. It’s horrid. And those long combos you could pull off in Melee, where you hit the enemy repeatedly racking up big damage, with them completely at your mercy no longer exist. It’s a hit and run kind of game now.
The last negative about Brawl is the balance, while I agree having character moves and stages is necessary for a good game, they made it so that any player can immediately be good. This is no longer a fighting game, it’s a party game. I went from defeating my 16 year old gaming friends to playing my friend’s 9 year old little sister. We played a match with items on and I actually lost. What the heck? I was the king of Melee among my friends, but one match in Brawl and I lost to a little girl?
