I was thinking about starting this thread and did twice, but then I stopped, but I guess I'll post it up. Rather than ask people about what they think about the game, I'd rather inform you about the game.
I'm guess no one here has heard or played this game before, but if I bring up something else, you'd probably know what I am talking about. Basically, StepMania is the computer version of Dance Dance Revolution, or Dancing Stage. Though it is not ''officially'' the computer version, it is the only version that has downloads of every mix of DDR, or Dancing Stage. Though most people consider it "nerdy", but it is a great way to work out and I think it is a cool game. That is, if you use the dance pad, not the Carpul Tunnel indusing keyboard.
Anyways, I started playing StepMania about a couple of months ago and I think it is pretty cool if you like DDR or Dancing Stage. It can be played with a dance pad or the keyboard. I tend to use both depending on when I want, but I think it can get boring if you play on the keyboard though. I think I'd rather play StepManis than buy a DDR game.
Well, if I'm going to talk about it, then let me start by saying that it is open source, which is pretty cool. For those who don't know what open source is, it is basically a fancy way of saying free. Everything available for StepMania is free to download. Though you pretty much need a high speed connection to play, because most of the song packs are in the 20-100+ megabytes, depending on how many songs are in the pack. Some may even get into the GB range, which is usually packs with Keyboard Megapack in their name.
There are a lot of sites where you can download stuff for the game. It in fact is pretty popular, though it's only been out for one or two years. StepMania also is pretty easy to install, but installing songs can get a bit frustrating, especially for people who aren't expierienced with the computer. Thankfully, I knew the computer, but I didn't know where to install the songs, and the instructions on the main site are rubbish and confusing in my opinion.
Anyway, I don't want to make this too long, but have you ever heard or StepMania before? If you did, have you ever played it before?
For those who haven't heard of it, do you think you would ever consider this kind of stuff interesting?
Thanks,
Lukario
