i try to direct link a .png ad a .jpg file and it says this

that is because those 2 files can not be direct linked together, u need to direct link each file into another file tht can be linked with each other sometimes this process can be extremely long and boring but then there are times where it takes like 5 mins depending on file size, and if u know wht ur doing... and wht operating system your computer is running on.

you dont get what i mean i tried a png first it didnt work THEN i tried a jpg

maybe we need more information, because I don't understand what you were trying to do either ...
a link on the fourm, unless it is to something on CM, is not allowed and png and jpg are both images ... so .. where were you trying to "direct link" this to, how and why?

the invalid file warning, then, shouldn't be the result of the png or jpg .. is it possible you copied the url wrong, or you are trying to use a file that is too big for an avatar?

Browsed File- make it a .gif or .jpg
URL- remember to delete http:// at the beginning:
Yes- http://www.link.com/file/file/picture.jpg
No- http://http://www.link.com/file/file/picture.jpg

Possibly the source from where you got the image from is dead. Save the image onto your computer, then compress the file size, and see if it works.
