Yeah, you shouldn't start this without their permission. I mean at the end of the day it is just a forum with no 'practical' values other than a place to hang out. It's great to get friends and all that to join but maybe not worth advertising. The admins may also not want you wasting your own money on advertising this site for it really is their own job. Although a great idea I would happily get involved in, I just don't think it is worth doing.

Though not that we need it. The forum may be dead but we are constantly getting new members. It's not like eveyrthing stopped and no one is posting, that is a truly dead forum. Many people are still online, many people come on line, there are a lot of new posts here, SO why do we need to advertise? We may attract stalkers, indsposed and not well in the head people, or on the birhgtside we could get a few new people, but no body really comes here for help anymore so what's the point?

Some good points there. You see guys, although it may sound like a good when you look really into it you start to realise there are many bad things about it. This is the reason why I am against this idea.

Just please keep in mind what was mentioned before....

first being the possible detrimental effects. the second being that perhaps it would be best to ask permission of Admin before doing this.

I personally am against the idea as well....but I also understand that it is not really any worse than using a google search to wind up here.

having said that, I think there could be better alternatives as well....perhaps generating flyers that the game stop staff could have available at the checkout....instead of having a poster for everyone under the sun to see. At least if it is a flyer at the checkout, it would be seen by someone who has at least purchased a game, a gamer of some level who would very likely have an interest in the site.

as to getting membership in the forum itself increased.... perhaps suggestions to get people to come past the portal where the reviews and cheats are listed and into the forum would be a better route. I don't know what the numbers are, but I would bet that there are MANY MANY MANY people who have registered on the site, and never once set foot in the forum.

Maybe we should work on getting our own membership more active and into the forum before we solicit outside in the real world?

While we are always pleased to accept free advertising we do ask that you be respectful of any business you may want to share flyers with. If they refuse, please be professional and thank them for listening, then move on. Remember .. we don't appreciate folks coming in here advertising .. we must have the same respect for others. I also think the flyer idea Lefty mentioned is much better then a poster.

Be respectful too of CheatMaster's focus, which is to see gamers discussing games (this isn't an rp forum, its a gamers forum) .. all ages of gamers. We currently seem to be a little low on adult gamers, so any "advertising focus" should be in the direction of adult gamers.

But more importantly .. what I do want to make sure of is that you do not go away from here with the impression that the forum is dying, as one thread has claimed. The forum statistics DO NOT agree, in fact, looking at the stats we are growing at a perfectly respectable steady pace.

The very best advertising is word of mouth ...
