i would love to review my fav game.
Game:Okami Developer:Clover Studios Platform:PS2 Okami is about a god who is in the form of a wolf. the god is based on the Shinto goddess Amaterasu who is the great sun god in the game. Amaterasu once fought a monster named Orochi. After the battle, she died and lost her powers in the process. She is then resurrected by a wood sprite named Sakuya. Amaterasu must save the land from darkness and reclaim her lost powers while doing so. The game is mostly based on the japanese mythology. Okami has a very special characteristic in it. It allows you to DRAW. by holding the R1 button you can do almost anything. slash a monster, make a tree bloom, blow something up with a cherry bomb, make wind, etc. this kind of makes the PS2 smile down at the DS saying 'i still have a few tricks up my sleeve youngblood' These unique drawing techniques can only be obtained by gods that you encounter in the game. Now the characters seem to talk with a sort of gibberish. almost like animal crossing. the landscape is very beautiful. it is japanese painting. The graphics are great especially when you clean the land of evil. but the camera kind of glitches here and there. nevertheless, the story, beauty, and graphics keep you hooked on this game. another con is that they talk too much. the characters just keep on blabbing. one character who is always with you throughout the game is chocked full of info. he gives you tips, but he can be very funny at times. this gives the game a bit of comic relief. those of you who dont like japanese games should give Okami a chance. besides there are many unlockables in it too. |

Cheetah, are you still accepting reviews? I'd love to post one of my own and if you'll forgive me, I may just do that (in a potential double post... thus my plea for forgiveness) while awaiting your response. Or I could simply supply a link to a review I already have at IGN. But I figured when your first post on a new forum is a link to an outside website, that's gotta be bad etiquette.

It appears my review is too long to make it into one post. So... I'll include multiple posts. Sorry guys.
~~~~~~~ Anyway, here is my review. Hope it lands me some consideration as a reviewer. A bit long, but I felt is was important to be thorough. Thanks for reading! Rogue Galaxy Platform: Playstation 2 Reviewed By: Liver Fluke During a period of time when the game industry is set to be inherited by the likes of the Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360, it can be easy to lose track of the fading sixth generation consoles. Rogue Galaxy was released at a time when next-generation hype was at its peak, and as such, a gamer could be forgiven for looking past this classic role playing affair when more visually attractive titles like Gears of War and Resistance were already in the hands of gamers. Rogue Galaxy places you in the shoes of a young man named Jaster, and as is to be expected of a role-playing space opera these days, Rogue Galaxy charges you with leading Jaster and his band of misfits on a lengthy adventure to save the galaxy from certain destruction. During the course of the game you will command a total of eight party members, each of which is gifted with a unique set of abilities and repetitive one-liners. The battle system of Rogue Galaxy largely takes place in real time, and is comparable to that found in the Kingdom Hearts series. Three party members may engage the enemy at once, though you always have direct control over just one character, Jaster by default. Basic striking or long range attacks can be executed swiftly through simple button presses, much like in an action game. More complex moves however are located on a menu. Accessing this menu pauses the action and allows you to select items or special skills at your own leisure. The battle system works well and certainly keeps you on your toes. Though strategy is relatively simple throughout Rogue Galaxy, you can never rely entirely on button mashing since managing health and ability points takes commitment and focus. Your party can be wiped out very quickly if you’re not careful.
Further complicating the battles are the various types of foes you will eventually face. Some enemies are tall and can only take damage when you jump and strike them in the head. Others have shields that must be deactivated through various concentrated means. Still others have varying patterns of vulnerability and can only be defeated when a weak point is exposed. Many of Rogue Galaxy’s boss fights also require special consideration.
Indeed, there is much to praise about the Rogue Galaxy battle system, but it is far from flawless. Though many enemies pose a legitimate threat, enemy parties who do not require special consideration can often be beaten in a matter of two to three seconds, and this serves as a problematic testament to the games lack of balancing. The true appeal however of Rogue Galaxy comes from its ambitious scope. The main quest is very lengthy in and of itself, but the game is also peppered with enthralling side adventures. From bug collecting and fighting, to a factory simulator, to optional bounty hunting, the game has a lot of great diversions should you become too weighed down by the storyline. |
NOTE: I have no idea why but I'm having an impossible time posting the rest of my review. It's now restricting me to less than a paragraph at a time. I wish I knew why, but needless to say, nobody wants me to spend 10 posts slapping down a single review.
